The Hip are relatively unique among Canadian bands in that they became extremely popular in Canada without any corresponding success in the United States or other countries around the world. This article from the BBC does a good job of summing up their success from an outsiders perspective.

The map above shows the largest Hispanic/Latino ancestry by US county based on data from the US Census.
Given its size and geographic proximity to the US, it should be no surprise that Mexicans make up by far the largest group (over 60% of Hispanic / Latinos).
However, what may be surprising is that just 29% of people with Mexican ancestry were born abroad, the vast majority were actually born in the United States.

The map shows the result of the UN’s November 20th, 2025 vote on “the tri-annual resolution on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment was adopted by a vote of 169 votes in favour, 3 against (Argentina, Israel, the United States) and 4 abstentions (Burundi, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, and Russia).”
