Canada’s Hudson Bay is the world’s second largest Bay after the Bay of Bengal.
It is 1,230,000 km2 (470,000 sq mi) about the same size as South Africa or almost twice the size of Texas.
But given it’s unique shape, I wondered what countries and/or US states you could fit inside it.
So here below is a bit of a random selection of places that I found fit inside.
I used thetruesize.com to check fit with the following 2 rules:
- I couldn’t rotate countries to make them fit.
- Countries were not allowed to touch Canada’s mainland or any of the main islands in the bay itself.
As always this is just a bit of fun and not designed to be taken too seriously.
1 & 2: Iceland & Ireland

You can easily fit both Iceland and Ireland and still have lots of space to sail around.
3. Bangladesh

Bangladesh is the 8th most populous country in the world with a population of 170 million people, but it can easily fit.
4. Poland
Poland is the 69th largest country in the world, but the largest one I can entirely fit in Hudson bay (Zimbabwe 60th largest was very close). Also with 38 million people the most populous European country that entirely fits.
5. Taiwan

Taiwan with a population of around 23 million is the largest island country by population you can fit.
6 & 7: North & South Korea

You can also fit North and South Korea in Hudson Bay if you swap them around.
8 & 9: Hispaniola: Haiti and The Dominican Republic

You could easily fit the entire island of Hispaniola, split between Haiti and The Dominican Republic in Hudson Bay, although I think the climate would be a little different.
10. Hawaii
Hawaii, the only island state, easily fits.
11. Arizona

Arizona is the 6th largest state by area and is the largest state that fits entirely in Hudson Bay.
12. New York
New York is the 4th most populous state with around 20 million residents and it easily fits into Hudson Bay.
13. Florida (Bonus)

Florida with over 23 million people is the 3rd most populous US state and you can almost fit it into Hudson Bay, but only if you put it on top of a few islands. Without the panhandle it would fit easily.
