Do you measure simply based on the city proper? Metropolitan area?
The map above attempts to solve that issue by looking at how many people live with 30km (18.6 miles) of the city centre of each European city. You can quibble that 30km is too much or not enough, but not on the general approach.

The map above shows one of my favourite random historical facts. Hungary, despite being landlocked, was run by Admiral Horthy who ruled as regent of of the Kingdom of Hungary from 1920 until 1944.

The map above looks at the population of Greece compared to Turkey between 1927 and 2024. Turkey went from having just over double the population of Greece in 1927 to being more than 8 times larger than Greece today.

The map above shows what percentage of Europeans think their government is hiding a cure for cancer.
It comes from Eurobarometer’s 2025 report on European citizens’ knowledge and attitudes towards science and technology.
The question they asked was the following:
The map above shows the largest supermarket chains from each European country. It should be noted that this does not mean that these are the only chains operating within the country or even the biggest within the country.
For example, Aldi is the 5th largest supermarket chain in the UK, but because it originates in Germany it’s shown in Germany.
