- At the end of 2023, there were 133 million pigs in EU countries.
- The EU’s pigmeat production in 2023 was 2.8 million tonnes less (down -11.8%) from its peak of 23.4 million tonnes in 2021.
- Spain accounted for about one-quarter of the EU’s pig (25.4%) and sheep (23.6%) populations.
