Default English Accent Used By Google Translate In Every Country

Map created by @IndianCharts
The map above shows the accent of English that the “text-to-speech” audio feature of Google Translate uses for each country as of 1 October 2023.

The map is color-coded to represent different accents, with a legend provided for interpretation.

Here is the breakdown of the color coding:

  • Black: No Google Translate text-to-speech audio available.
  • Pink: General American accent (female voice).
  • Green: British Received Pronunciation (RP) accent (female voice).
  • Orange: Indian accent (female voice).
  • Yellow: General Australian accent (female voice).

From the map, you can infer the following:

  • Countries in North and South America, as well as parts of the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, predominantly use the General American accent.
  • Most of Europe and Africa, and parts of Asia use the British Received Pronunciation accent.
  • India specifically uses an Indian accent.
  • Australia and New Zealand use the General Australian accent.
  • Some countries, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, do not have Google Translate text-to-speech audio available.
