The World With All Countries Over 50 Million People Removed

The map above shows what the world would look like if you removed all countries in the world with over 50 million people.

The remaining countries would have a combined population of just 1.8 billion, a decline of 75% from the over 8 billion who are alive today.

But the earth would only lose 67,569,201 sq km (26,088,614 sq miles) of land or around 45% of the earth’s total land area.

Spain becomes the world’s most populous country with 49,077,984 people. And Canada would become the world’s largest country by area and 7th most populous.

Full list of the 30 countries removed (with population figures) and a few other observations:

  1. India – 1,413,324,000
  2. China – 1,408,280,000

  7. Brazil – 212,583,750
  8. Bangladesh – 169,828,911
  9. Russia – 146,028,325
  10. Mexico – 130,294,079
  11. Japan – 123,440,000
  12. Philippines – 114,123,600
  13. Ethiopia – 109,499,000
  14. Democratic Republic of the Congo – 109,276,000
  15. Egypt – 105,914,499
  16. Vietnam – 101,343,800
  17. Iran – 85,961,000
  18. Turkey – 85,664,944
  19. Germany – 83,555,478
  20. France – 68,603,000
  21. Thailand – 65,932,105
  22. South Africa – 63,015,904

  26. Colombia – 52,695,952
  27. Kenya – 52,428,290
  28. Myanmar – 51,316,756
  29. South Korea – 51,207,874
  30. Sudan – 50,448,963

A few observations:

  • There are now a lot more islands in the world some of favourites include: North Korea (although would be sort of strange to keep that name), Vatican, Mongolia, Nepal, Scotland, Iberia, Scandinavia and Canada.
  • England is gone, but Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland remain.
  • Australia and New Zealand are completely unaffected.
  • As are the countries in the Caribbean
  • Asia and the Middle East are just a collection of disparate islands
  • Europe has become an archipelago
  • Africa has been split in 3
  • South America has been split in 2 and both bits are now separated from central America
  • North America is now just Canada and Greenland.

Where are you choosing to live in this scenario?

Should not split up the UK as if it’s 4 different countries
