The map above shows all countries that have sent animals into space based on data from Wikipedia. There are quite a few surprising countries both on and off the list.

Animals include everything from fruit flies to monkeys. Reddit user walkalong compiled the complete list by country:

United States: Fruit Flies, Monkeys, Mice, Wasps, Beatles, Frogs, Roundworms, Fish, Spiders, Crickets, Snails, Sea Urchins, Brine Shrimp, Jellyfish, Silkworms, Bees, Ants, Cockroaches, Scorpions, Butterflies

Russia/USSR: Dogs, Rabbits, Rats, Fruit Flies, Frogs, Guinea Pig, Tortoises, Wine Flies, Meal Worms, Fish, Newts, Brine Shrimp, Water Bears, Cockroaches, Sexy Space Geckos
