A Satellite Map Of Middle-Earth

The map above is a “Satellite” view Of Middle-Earth from the Lord of the Rings book, movie and TV series. To be more accurate it’s a rendering of Middle-earth based on the work of Ardacraft.

“Founded in May of 2014, ArdaCraft seeks to recreate J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth in one of the largest and most detailed Minecraft maps ever created.” And to date includes over 400 unique locations.

I think the map looks amazing, but some users on reddit had a few quibbles. Such as:

User Jefe_Chichimeca states:

“Everything East of the misty mountains should be quite dry, it’s pretty much blocked by mountains from any sea”

User Jampacko says:

“Minas tirith is far too big.”

To which MicahVanderman replied:

Yep. So is Isengard and you can see Caras Galadhon too. This map was made for Minecraft and therefore is 1/58th of the true size of Middle-earth (still massive for a Minecraft map at 50k x 50 k blocks) but Minas Tirith at that scale would be tiny, so Minas Tirith is then upscaled on our map. It makes it appear much larger on this map. Eventually I’d like for the structure footprints to be removed from the heightmap so a more accurate map can be made.

What is your favourite bit about the map? Please leave a comment below.
