How Whites Voted In The 2016 US Presidential Election by State & County

Map crated by reddit user Reagente

The map above gives a preliminary view how white voters voted in the 2016 US presidential election on a county by county basis. The counties in blue voted for Hillary Clinton and the ones in red voted for Donald Trump.

Reagente explains that:

For those wondering how I created this map, I started with 2012 version of this map (which utilized data from the NYT Upshot, David Leip’s US Election Atlas, Dave’s Redistricting App, and the American Community Survey via the Census Bureau) to calculate this for 2012 in detail.

From that starting point, I used the preliminary results (which I compared against 2012) and exit polls (when available, I made educated guesses in states where they weren’t) to determine how much demographic groups in 2016 shifted from ’12.

I decided to forego calculating margins until more information about this election is available, but this map should broadly speaking be accurate.

However, it should be noted that this map can be a little misleading for a few reasons. First, there’s no differentiation on the margin of victory. Second, it does not take into account population size. The counties in blue, generally speaking, have a lot more people living in them (including white voters).

These two factors mean that Trump’s victory among white voters, may appear slightly overstated by the map. Nevertheless, it’s still interesting to see the extreme geographical concentration of Clinton’s votes compared to Trump’s.

You already stated the two biggest problems: cartograms and population.
    Here’s a more honest map:
    http://www.viewsoftheworld.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/USelection2016Cartogram.png
An even more honest map will trend towards shades of purple.

A bigger question: how did the original mapmaker crunch the demographic data?
Did he have access to voter registrations, and note each individual who voted?
I’m Caucasian, living in an Indigo voting district, voting as a Democrat. how does he note my vote?
    Is Latino “white”?
How do you count someone like Obama, who is half-black, half-white?
What about that blue swath on Lake Superior? St. Louis county, MN is 94% white.

    How
can today’s White Christian ministers who profess to be the guiding
spiritual light for their parishioners knowingly attack or remain silent
to the truth of the horrendous legacy, in regard to the injustices of
    slavery in America’s past history?

    Imagine the poor
ignorant and racist in America are supporting the Wealthy and the
Republicans, “Cutting off their nose to spite their face.”

    Christians
who still hold on to the old prejudices of the past are making a
mockery of the death of Christ and His sacrifice, a Dream Deferred.

Hi. White republican Christian voter here.

      “the Wealthy and the Republicans”?

Uh, no. Christian values and morals **as government policy** AND as personal policies will lead people to wealth, and those that hate the wealthy (envious, covetous, Democrats/Socialists) actually hold the opposite values of a typical Christian. Think about it- if I offer you a service and you pay for it and we’re both satisfied, has greed occurred? No. That’s the definition of the free market- you’re free to decline or accept what i’m selling, and vice versa. Jobs, too- no one forces you to work any job or for any particular pay. Where’s the greed? How about forcing someone to give up what they have earned to give to someone else in exchange for a vote? You would **demand** government assistance programs- this isn’t greed? You would **demand** that the government force someone to pay you more than your labor is worth- this isn’t greed?

There are corrupt people on the right, it is true- the Bush’s were both completely corrupt for example. But ALL of the Christian good is in the republican party as a matter of fact- not opinion.

FYI, this map has marked red San Luis Obispo County, Calif., which voted 2-1 for Clinton. While not all residents are white, about 80% of them are so this county should show blue on your map.

Be that as it may, but by all accounts, Hillary Clinton is a notorious murderer and should be in prison!

We could show you actual proof of it and you’d simply “deny our facts” lol. That’s called living outside of reality…. who should be in a mental hospital?

The whole ¨Rich Republicans¨ thing is so old… and wrong. I’ve been hearing it my whole life. Please. The ¨Democrats are for the working man¨ thing was always b***s**t too. There are millions of middle class people in those blue sections, and they don´t give a s**t about ¨rich corporations.¨ Im one of them. Give it a rest. Y,all need a new playbook, and its not the green new deal.

“A little misleading” and “Trump’s victory among white voters, may appear slightly overstated…” may be the understatements of the decade.
