The names come from the U.S. Government Publishing Office Style Manual, but are not always the only ones used.

The total number of deaths are written on each state and the background colour shows the number of deaths per 100,000 people.

The map above shows one of my favourite random facts, apparently Wyoming has only 2 sets of escalators in the entire state.

As a London resident this is just wild to me, I rode at least 4 escalators just to get to work this morning via train and tube.

So the thought of there being only 2 in the entire state sort of blow my mind.

Amazingly, despite dropping out, RFK Jr got the 3rd most votes in 1,684 counties because it was often too late to take his name off the ballot.

difference in inflation adjusted minimum wage rate by state between 2024 and 1968

The map above shows the difference between current state minimum wage rates in 2024 with what they would have been had they been kept inline with inflation from 1968.

In 1968, the Federal US minimum wage for jobs covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, was $1.60 per hour.

In 2010, the Federal minimum wage was increased to $7.25 per hour where it has remained ever since.

However, if it had kept up with inflation from 1968 it would be now be over twice as a high at $14.82 per hour in 2024.
