Where’s the admittedly little know, Bristolian ‘muhh’?

Sheffielder here – many of us say “mom” rather than mum.

    In Barnsley, it’s mam.

Quite right. We say “Mom” and “Mommy” in and around Brummagem. It’s common at least as far west as Telford even among people born in Shropshire (as well as Birmingham émigrés).

Black Country/Brummie bod here. I most definitely had a mom, as did she and her mom going back heaven knows how long. It’s most definitely not an ‘import’ from the US. We exported it there.

Sheffield also has a strong ‘mom’ community too, which is always left out of these maps.
