How many times can you fir the population of Scotland into England.

The map above shows how many times the population (not area) of Scotland could fit into England. In case you have difficulty reading the numbering above, the answer is 10.

According to the 2011 census, England has a population of 53.01 million whereas Scotland has a population of 5.295 million. This means you would actually need 10.01 Scotlands to equal one England.

Although it should be pointed out that none of these would be True Scotsman.

Other interesting comparisons:

  • London has 8.539 million people which equals 1.61 Scotlands.
  • Wales has a population of 3.063 million which means you would need 1.73 Wales to fill Scotland, 2.79 Wales to fill London or 17.31 Wales to fill England.
  • The Republic of Ireland has a population of 4.595 million equal to 1.5 Wales. However, you would need 1.15 Irelands to fill Scotland, 1.86 Irelands to fill London and 11.54 Irelands to fill England.
  • Finally, Northern Ireland (NI) has a population of 1.811 million. This means you would need 1.69 NIs to fill Wales, 2.54 NIs to fill the Republic, 2.93 NIs to fill Scotland, 4.72 NIs to fill London and a whopping 29.27 NIs to fill England.
