This map shows how the letter “x” is spelled in different languages! Where does it come from? The theory that is mostly accepted points out that it is formed from three Nahuatl words: ‘metztli’ meaning ‘moon’; ‘xictli’ translate as ‘belly button’ or ‘centre’; and the affix ‘-co’ indicating ‘place’.
The official legal name of the country is ‘United Mexican States’.
Aka Estados Unidos Mexicanos

I’m not 100% sure about the other Slavic nations, but in Slovenia we name the name of the country “Mexico” as “Mehika” – so the pronunciation of the letter “H” in Mehika is more similar to Spanish (Mexican) pronunciation – it is clearly not “x” as “ks”.
Oddly enough, we name the city (“Ciudad”) of Mexico also as Mexico, so we also pronounce it the English way: Mexico (x = ks).
So, for Slovenians, Mexico is the capital of Mehika.

That is both bizarre and really interesting.
