1. Russian Empire (1900–1912)
First appearance: 1900 Paris Olympics.
- Athletes competed under the Russian Empire, then still ruled by the Tsars.
- Participation was relatively small compared to Western European nations.
- Russia attended:

- 1908 London
- 1912 Stockholm
- Won modest numbers of medals; early success included wrestling, skating, and figure skating (which was once part of Summer Olympics).
End of participation:
- The Russian Revolution (1917) and subsequent political upheaval meant Russia did not compete again until after the Soviet Union formed.
2. Soviet Union (USSR) (1952-1988)
First appearance: 1952 Helsinki Olympics.
- The USSR entered the Games as a global superpower.
- Built a highly organized state sports system focused on Olympic success.

3. Unified Team (1992)

Following findings by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA):

6. Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) 2020-2022
