  1. Sea – A large body of saltwater that is often connected to an ocean.
  2. Lake – A large body of water surrounded by land.
  3. River – A large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another such stream.
  4. Gulf – A large inlet from the ocean into the landmass, typically with a narrower opening than a bay.
  5. Bay – A broad inlet of the sea where the land curves inward.
  6. Channel – A length of water wider than a strait, joining two larger areas of water, especially two seas.
  7. Strait – A narrow passage of water connecting two seas or two other large areas of water.
  8. Lagoon – A shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by barrier islands or reefs.
  9. Ocean – The vast body of salt water that covers almost three-quarters of the earth’s surface.
  10. Sound – A large sea or ocean inlet larger than a bay, deeper than a bight, and wider than a fjord.
  11. Fjord – A long, deep, narrow body of water that reaches far inland.
  12. Atoll – A ring-shaped reef, island, or chain of islands formed of coral.
  13. Iceberg – A large floating mass of ice detached from a glacier or ice sheet and carried out to sea.

Landforms:

  1. Mountain – A large natural elevation of the earth’s surface rising abruptly from the surrounding level.
  2. Volcano – A mountain or hill, typically conical, having a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are being or have been erupted from the earth’s crust.
  3. Plateau – An area of relatively level high ground.
  4. Butte – An isolated hill with steep, often vertical sides and a small, relatively flat top.
  5. Mesa – An isolated flat-topped hill with steep sides, found in landscapes with horizontal strata.
  6. Canyon – A deep gorge, typically one with a river flowing through it.
  7. Delta – A landform at the mouth of a river where it splits into several outlets.
  8. Dune – A mound or ridge of sand or other loose sediment formed by the wind, especially on the sea coast or in a desert.
  9. Cliff – A steep rock face, especially at the edge of the sea.
  10. Coast – The part of the land adjoining or near the sea.
  11. Hill – A naturally raised area of land, not as high or craggy as a mountain.
  12. Valley – A low area of land between hills or mountains, typically with a river or stream flowing through it.
  13. Plain – A large area of flat land with few trees.
  14. Prairie – A large open area of grassland, especially in North America.
  15. Swamp – An area of low-lying, uncultivated ground where water collects; a bog or marsh.

  18. Island – A piece of land surrounded by water.

Vegetation and Climate Regions:

  1. Forest – A large area covered chiefly with trees and undergrowth.
  2. Rain Forest – A dense, warm, wet forest found in tropical areas with high annual rainfall.
  3. Jungle – An area of land overgrown with dense forest and tangled vegetation, typically in the tropics.
  4. Desert – A barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs and consequently living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life.
  5. Tundra – A type of biome where the tree growth is hindered by low temperatures and short growing seasons.
  6. Geyser – A hot spring in which water intermittently boils, sending a tall column of water and steam into the air.
  7. Oasis – A fertile spot in a desert where water is found.

Coastal and Marine Features:

  1. Cape – A headland of large size extending into a body of water, usually the sea.
