Find which city or town any coordinates belong to.
How this tool works
The tool reverse geocodes the point with OpenStreetMap to find the municipality it actually falls in, and separately shows the nearest major city from a bundled world city list with its distance. Uses your device GPS with one click (your location is processed in your browser and never stored), or you can type coordinates or click the map.
What you can do with it
- Resolve city names for coordinate data in spreadsheets and logs
- Find the local municipality and the nearest big city in one lookup
- Identify where geotagged photos were taken
- Click around the map to explore what belongs to which city
Why use it
Datasets full of coordinates usually need a city column before anyone can read them. This gives both the formal municipality and the nearest recognizable city.
