One tap tells you which city or town you are in.
How this tool works
The tool shows two answers: the nearest city from a bundled list of 7,342 world cities (computed instantly in your browser), and the municipality reported by OpenStreetMap reverse geocoding for your exact point, which knows about smaller towns and actual city limits. Uses your device GPS with one click (your location is processed in your browser and never stored), or you can type coordinates or click the map.
What you can do with it
- Check which municipality you are actually inside, not just near
- Identify the closest major city when traveling in rural areas
- Resolve city names for coordinates from photos or logs
- Compare the nearest big city with the actual local municipality
Why use it
Being near a city and being inside its limits are different questions, and both come up: one for orientation, one for taxes, schools, and services. This tool answers both at once.
