Countries Where Roblox Has Been Banned

The map above shows which countries have banned Roblox and which haven’t.

And for those without kids: Roblox is an online gaming platform and game-creation system where users can both play games and create their own experiences using built-in tools.

Here’s how it works:

User-generated games

Instead of being one single game, Roblox is more like a huge platform containing millions of mini-games (“experiences”) created by players.

Creation tools:

Developers use Roblox Studio (a free development tool) to build games using coding (Lua scripting) and design tools.

Social platform:

Players can chat, form groups, attend virtual events, and interact with others in shared virtual spaces.

Virtual economy:

Roblox uses a virtual currency called Robux, which can be bought with real money and used to purchase items, upgrades, or access to certain games.

It’s especially popular among younger audiences (children and teens), though adults also create and play.

Which countries have banned or restricted Roblox?

Roblox availability changes over time, but as of recent years, these countries have had bans or major restrictions including: Algeria, China, Egypt, Iraq, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Russia, and Turkey.

Algeria:

  • Banned on 8 September 2025.
  • Authorities said Roblox lacked sufficient child-protection tools.
  • Concerns included:
    • Sexual harassment exposure.
    • Inappropriate content.
    • Fraud, scams, and child exploitation risks.
    • Increasing incidents involving young users (especially under age 10).

China

  • Blocked due to strict government content controls.
  • Concerns included:
    • Content perceived as anti-communist.
    • Maintaining territorial and political narratives.
  • Requirements for operation included:
    • National ID verification.
    • Restrictions on foreign interaction.
    • Limits on historical or political content.
  • Chinese version (LuoBuLeSi) launched with Tencent in 2021 but later shut down.

Egypt

  • Ban announced 1 February 2026.
  • Decision by Supreme Council for Media Regulation.
  • Main concern:
    • Children’s internet and social media usage.
  • Enforcement coordinated with telecommunications regulators.

Iraq

  • Blocked on 21 October 2025.
  • Reasons:
    • Child safety concerns.
    • Direct communication between users seen as risk for exploitation or cyber extortion.
    • Platform considered incompatible with social values.
    • Identified “security, social, and behavioral risks.”
  • Kurdistan Regional Government implemented similar block.

North Korea

  • Blocked due to general national internet censorship.
  • Roblox specifically restricted as part of wider control of foreign platforms.

Oman

  • Blocked in June 2025.
  • Authorities cited:
    • Reports of inappropriate content reaching minors.

Palestine

  • Blocked 17 November 2025.
  • Decision based on:
    • Reviews of platform content and user interactions.
    • Concerns about harassment and unsafe digital behaviour affecting children.

Qatar

  • Blocked 13 August 2025.
  • Triggered by public pressure over child safety.
  • App downloadable but unusable beyond the home screen.

Russia

  • Blocked 3 December 2025.
  • Reasons:
    • Alleged extremist materials.
    • Content labelled “LGBT propaganda.”
    • Child protection concerns (harassment and explicit content).

Turkey

  • Blocked 7 August 2024.
  • Court decision based on:
    • Potential child abuse risks.
    • Legal obligation to protect children.
  • Possible future unban if Roblox removes specific content and meets requirements.

Countries currently moving toward censorship

Australia (ongoing process as of Feb 2026)

  • Reportedly moving toward restrictions.
  • Decision linked to media regulation authority.
  • Focus appears to be child safety and content moderation.

Countries where Roblox was previously blocked (but restored)

Jordan

  • Blocked starting 2020 due to:
    • Mental health concerns.
    • Exposure to foul language, scams, hacking.
  • Unblocked in December 2025 after agreement:
    • Chat features disabled.
    • Offensive content hidden.

Kuwait

  • Temporary ban in August 2025.
  • Concerns:
    • Harmful content.
    • Immoral or violent behaviour exposure.
  • Ban lifted after safety measures added:
    • Chat restrictions.
    • Monitoring systems.

United Arab Emirates

  • Banned 2018–2021.
  • Concerns about harmful online content and gaming risks.
  • Access restored in 2021.

Why do countries ban, censor and/or restrict Roblox?

Most bans are based on similar concerns:

Child safety and moderation

Because games are user-generated, content moderation can be challenging. Authorities worry about:

  • Exposure to inappropriate or sexual content
  • Online predators
  • Bullying or harmful interactions

 Social/chat features

Voice chat and messaging systems can raise concerns around:

  • Unmonitored communication between minors and strangers
  • Cultural or regulatory issues with open online social spaces

 Gambling or monetization concerns

Some governments have questioned:

  • Loot boxes or paid items
  • Real-money spending by minors

 Cultural or regulatory standards

Some countries restrict platforms that don’t align with local media laws or censorship rules.

Is Roblox banned in the US, UK, Canada and/or Europe?

No, Roblox is fully legal and widely used in the UK, US, Europe, and most of the world. However, as mentioned above Australia is moving to ban it.
