How many of the 3,144 county equivalents in the United States can you name? Type any county name and every matching county lights up on the map. Zoom and pan to see your progress, and use the state panel to jump around the country. There is no time limit, so settle in.
How the quiz works
Type a name such as Washington and every unfound Washington County in the country is revealed at once, exactly as it works on classic naming quizzes. Spelling is forgiving: accents, apostrophes, hyphens, and the words county, parish, and borough are all optional, and Saint, Ste. and St. are treated the same. Louisiana parishes, Alaska boroughs and census areas, Virginia independent cities, and the District of Columbia all count, which is how the total reaches 3,144 rather than the 3,007 areas that are formally called counties.
