Where the sun sits in the sky right now, or at any chosen moment: azimuth, elevation, and shadows.
How this tool works
For a given place and time the tool computes the sun's position with standard solar equations: azimuth (compass direction, measured clockwise from north) and elevation (angle above the horizon). The compass rose shows the direction at a glance, and the shadow figure tells you how long a shadow any object casts as a multiple of its height, and which way it points.
What you can do with it
- Check where the sun will be at a specific time for photography or filming
- Work out shadow lengths for garden planning, solar panels, or building overshadowing
- See the current sky phase: daylight, golden hour, twilight, or night
- Use your GPS position or any coordinates worldwide
Why use it
Knowing the sun will rise at 6:14 is less useful than knowing where it will be at 9 am when you want to shoot a photo or figure out if your terrace gets morning light. This tool answers the where question, not just the when.
