How this tool works

Pick a center and a radius, and the tool draws the geodesic circle (every point exactly that distance from the center over the Earth's surface) on the map. Because the map is flat and the Earth is not, large circles appear stretched, which is accurate. The tool also reports the true area the circle covers and which listed cities fall inside it.

What you can do with it

  • Visualize service areas, delivery ranges, and how far is 100 miles from here
  • See which major cities fall inside a given range of a point
  • Get the real surface area a radius covers
  • Understand map distortion by watching large circles bend near the poles

Why use it

Radius questions are everywhere in planning, and drawing them accurately on a flat map is exactly what people get wrong. A true geodesic circle with the covered cities listed does it correctly.
