How this tool works
The tool samples 80 evenly spaced points along the great-circle line between your two places, fetches the ground elevation for all of them in a single Open-Meteo request, and draws the profile as a chart with the highest and lowest points and the total climb and descent along the line. The line is the straight geodesic, not a road or trail, so it is a cross-section of the terrain rather than a route profile.
