The map above is a tongue-in-cheek look at how the Vikings may have viewed the rest of Europe in 1000 AD. It has everything from crazy relatives to the sea of the sweaty people.
The map is the creation of Yanko Tsvetkov and appears in Atlas of Prejudice 2: Chasing Horizons (also see Atlas of Prejudice: Mapping Stereotypes, Vol. 1)
We’ve previously featured Yanko’s Culinary Horrors of Europe and felt this is another deserving humorous European map, this time from the Vikings point of view.
If you’re interested in learning more about the real Vikings we recommend the following books:

eh …. did they not have an opinion on the Irish? They had several settlements there in 1000AD

Unless it can be shown that the Vikings had a word that corresponded to “retarded” (in which case its unfortunate use would be at least historically accurate), could we come up with a different pejorative the next time, so we don’t slam an entire group of people who struggle along with the rest of us to make sense of he world we find ourselves in?

Mongoloid. You’re welcome.
THOR says
All of the “west” is of Mongoloid origin. Vikings know their stuff.

Wander what they thought of the scottish…. “Our Chad bros”
A. Scot says
The Scottish islands were an integral part of the “Viking realm”. The rest of Scotland was a convenient source of murder victims and things to steal

The book where the map comes from is called Atlas of Prejudice after all.
Haraldr says
Map makes no sense to anyone who knows their history. Ireland & Scotland were very much within the Viking world. The Shetland Islands were as Viking as Norway. The Isle of Man and Western isles too. Someone with no knowledge of the period took a map of Europe in AD 1000 showing the major kingdoms and wrote nonsensical non-funny comments in on all of them. It probably took me longer to write this comment than it took them to make this map.
