The map above shows a county by country breakdown of the Democratic Presidential primaries. Counties won by Hilary Clinton are shown in gold and those won by Bernie Sanders are shown in green (ties are in dark grey).
Candidates needed 2,383 delegates to win the nomination.
Overall, here’s how the totals broke-down:
- Hillary Clinton: 2,842 delegates (2,271 pledged + 571 superdelegates); 55.2% of popular vote
- Bernie Sanders: 1,865 delegates (1,820 pledged + 45 superdelegates); 43.1% of popular vote
Therefore, while Clinton did not win the nomination with pledged delegates alone, she did receive more votes and a greater share of pledged delegates compared to Sanders.

Please note this map has been updated from the one that appeared on April 9th, 2016 when the content was still ongoing.

Nice work and Thanks… my father had a map division and would have been impressed to see your work!
Dana Ross says
Why is this map showing results in Wisconsin? oops my fault
Gregory Wonderwheel says
Will you be updating it with each primary? With today, all of Alaska and all of Washington should be green for Bernie.
Brilliant Maps says
Originally the plan was not to keep updating but given the level of interest will be trying to update today.
Glyn Harries says
yes please update! great map! cheers
David says
I’m spanish and i cant understand one thing. Why latins, majority in the south, voted Hillary that massively instead of Bernie? I thought the easy votes for bernie were going to be the latin ones
Thanks!
aypiscioneri says
because people are stupid
stuart walker says
we the people do not go with hate anymore, get with the program my friend.
Madge says
aypiscioneri speaks the truth. People don’t vote for Bernie because they are stupid. No hate, just facts.
Mr. Salacia says
Food for thought: Why does it appear that Hillary dominates the urban areas, (not including the South…as most of them never heard of Bernie by the time of their primaries). Typically, the farther left/progressive….the better a candidate does in the city. New York city….Bernie has the largest rally in American history…and then gets trounced in his home town. Something isn’t right.
Madge says
Closed primaries prevent registered Independants from voting. Bernie has a huge following of people who register as Independants. When they are excluded due to closed primaries he doesn’t do as well. I believe New York was a closed primary state.
Primaries are not a good example of how the American electorate is thinking because the Independants are excluded from many closed primary states.
IKIO-SAM says
She was a NY Senator for a while. In the senate elections she won as any typical Democrat would. In other words, she did well in NYC, but lost upstate. Hence Bernie Sanders’ success up north and Clinton’s success around NYC and Long Island.
Ted says
When are we getting updates? Last update was Wyoming caucus on April 9th. Almost a month and there are many states that have voted since…
Madge says
This is SO COOL!! Will it be updated soon? I know there are more states that voted which are not represented here.
Brilliant Maps says
Will try to get an update live this weekend.
